Places to see and go
Zoos Victoria

Zoos Victoria offers experiences at three great zoos: Melbourne Zoo, Healesville Sanctuary, and Werribee Open Range Zoo.  We welcome more than 1.6 million visitors annually across the three properties, making it Victoria's largest paid tourism attraction.

In 2009 Zoos Victoria adopted a new strategic direction that will see the organisation transform over 20 years into the world's leading zoo-based conservation organisation.

To achieve this vision we have identified five action areas - Conservation, Animals, Visitors, People and Financial Sustainability - to bring about the transformation and ensure that our commitment to conservation is achieved.

Zoos Victoria intends to be a true leader, including being the Australian authority on captive animals, the major facilitator of wildlife knowledge leading to conservation action, and a high profile model for conservation, environmental sustainability and corporate social involvement.

Each of our three zoos has a unique value proposition and role to play in making this happen. We are well placed to create our specialist niche, one that will see us inspire the millions of people that visit our campuses and the wider community to take conservation action and to work with animals that require our assistance to survive.

Queen Vic Markets
Queen Victoria Market is Victoria's premier open-air market. It's a thriving and vital place pulsating with life.

The friendly competition between stallholders, and their concern for customers, is what gives the Market its Old World charm and the addictive power to draw millions of visitors each year.

The vibrant, cosmopolitan atmosphere of this historic site has endeared the Market to Melburnians for 130 years. The Market is probably best known for its huge variety of fresh produce. Almost 50% of the Market area is dedicated to the sale of fresh produce, including fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, chicken, seafood and delicatessen products.

The remainder of the Market is used for variety and speciality goods, with Sundays being the most popular day for this category. On Sundays, the hustle and bustle of the weekday Market gives way to a more relaxed and leisurely family day. Queen Street is closed and converted into an outdoor cafe area, with children's rides and other activities.

The Market is divided into a number of Market Precincts; the Deli Hall, Elizabeth Street Shops, F shed laneway, Vic Market Place Food Court, Fruit and Vegetables, The Meat Hall, Organics, General Merchandise, Victoria Street Shops and the Wine Market.

Colonial Tramcar Restaurant
Dining in Melbourne can be a fabulous experience, especially aboard the fleet of historical trams that have become The Colonial Tramcar Restaurant.

These glossy, burgundy restaurants on wheels are the first travelling tramcar restaurants in the world and ensure a delightful innovative approach to dining.

As they cruise the scenic streets of Melbourne, diners can enjoy our fine cuisine and drink the very best of Australian wines or make a selection from our fully stocked bar at a fully inclusive price. The atmosphere is cosy, the service friendly and the decor as inviting as the colonial period these trams reflect.

The Colonial Tramcar Restaurant officially commenced operation in August 1983 and has since become a star attraction and tourist symbol for the city of Melbourne. Dining aboard the Colonial Tramcar Restaurant is not only a culinary delight, but also a trip into a little piece of Victoria's history.
