2. Christmas Lights

Melbourne pulls out all the stops when it comes to Christmas festivities, and what better way to embrace the holiday spirit than to come along to enjoy this year’s Christmas Light & Sound Show display. This annual event is hosted by the LMC at the Oxley Stadium, providing plenty of open space to settle in for a picnic with family and friends before the show starts. Get ready to wowed by the lights and musical accompaniment all combining to create a truly eye-capturing performance that is suitable for audiences of all ages.

It wouldn’t be a New Years celebration without fireworks! Luckily for you, we know just the place where you can sit back to enjoy the magnificent light show without having to tackle the big crowds. Go witness the amazing New Years fireworks down at docklands precinct, just a short 12-minute walk from Batman’s Hill on Collins. Arrive in the afternoon to secure the perfect spot and make sure you bring plenty of food and drinks to keep yourself occupied till midnight. The docklands precinct is also home to some of Melbourne’s finest restaurants and bars, perfect for those party-goers looking to kick on after the fireworks display.

4. Melbourne Planetarium

Visit Scienworks to experience the simulated display of the night sky in the Planetarium’s fully immersive surround sound and full-dome projection systems. The planetarium is definitely worth the 21-minute drive from Batman’s Hill to see a number of shows that are both highly informative and entertaining for a wide range of audiences. However, for those 18 and over, we recommend experiencing the Planetarium on Friday nights, to see the Planetarium’s stellar line-up of full-dome film screenings. Treat yourself to a drink from the Planetarium Bar and make yourself feel right at home in their recliner seating to get ready to be transported to an entirely different universe and voyage into unseen worlds. 5. Docklands Ice Rink
