It’s safe to say that Melbourne is the ultimate breakfast city. You’ll find cafes, all-day breakfasts and brunch deals on every turn. To remove some of the guess work in deciding where to get your next eggs Benedict fix, we’ve put together a full week’s line up of breakfasts spots you should visit in Melbourne CBD (and a bonus one for second breakfast because why not).
From decadent french toasts to hearty baked eggs and ham, these places prove why Melbourne deserves its spot as Australia’s brunch capital. To top it off, they’re all within a short distance from Quality Hotel Batman’s Hill!
Hash Specialty Coffee

From their urban, comfy-chic fit out to their specialty fairy floss hot chocolate, Hash Speciality Coffee on Hardware Street is distinctly Melbourne. With a filling all-day breakfast selection, this hard-kept city secret proudly supports local suppliers and ingredients.
Any Melburnian chocaholic will readily rave about their insane hot chocolate creations— made from the infamous Mörk Chocolate of course.

Only a short 5-minute walk from Quality Hotel Batman’s Hill, this gem gives classic breakfast menu items an indulgent twist. Try their Benedict eggs-dry-cured ham with béarnaise and vinegar powder on sourdough, or the confit lamb sausage roll with anchovy mayonnaise.
To get the full ‘Higher Ground’ experience, we especially recommend booking a table on the L-shaped mezzanine that overlooks the bustling ground floor. The lounge encourages an unhurried atmosphere— perfect for sipping on a great cup of coffee while reading your favourite book or nibbling on their delicious food offerings.

Kinship & Co

Coffee, Jaffles and Seinfeld. That’s Kinship & Co in a nutshell. From the graffitied exterior, the Butterbing cookies on the counter, and a shelf display of the owners’ sneaker collection, this cosy cafe is the epitome of Melbourne City. And like the cherry (or should we say ‘Jerry’) on top of this quirky sundae, Kinship & Co specialises in making jaffles named after Seinfeld characters.
Within a 7-minute’s walk from Quality Hotel Batman’s Hill, you can grab yourself an Elaine: a jaffle with bocconcini, tomato and basil; or maybe you’d prefer a Jerry: the classic honey leg ham and Swiss cheese combo. Our personal favourite is the Frank, a three cheese jaffle drizzled with truffle oil.

A Saturday-morning Melbourne brunch favourite, White Mojo offers a drool-worthy list of breakfast combos you didn’t know you needed until now.
White Mojo stands out in the sea of the café-laden Hardware Street with brekky dishes such as their signature Croissant Burger, a buttery croissant filled with soft shell crab, chipotle mayo, smoked eel, chorizo crumbs and fried egg. And for the sweet-tooth, their S’mores Buttermilk Hotcake served with fresh fruit, torched lemon meringue, passionfruit curd, granola, mascarpone cream and maple syrup is a crowd-pleaser. Did anyone else’s mouth just water?

Known for its consistently great coffee, wide selection of bagels and friendly service, Manchester Press is one of Melbourne’s best laneway cafes.
Even though it’s hidden away on Rankins Lane, this former-art-gallery-turned-café is always bustling with patrons. Grab a double shot mocha and BLAT bagel to fuel up for a full day of city exploration.

Kings and Knaves

A hot and crusty breakfast toast is probably the best thing since, well, sliced bread. Kings and Knaves, a quirky little New York-style café, specialises in making the finest toasts on the planet.
Try their bestselling Smoked Salmon toast: a thick, buttery slice of house-made sourdough topped with smoked salmon and crème fraiche with fried capers.

The Grain Store

In need of something hot, tasty and (reasonably) healthy? Just a short 4-minute walk from Quality Hotel Batman’s Hill is The Grain Store, serving all your breakfast faves.
From the freshly squeezed orange juice, fluffy stacks of pancakes, and green apple housemade bircher muesli, this city café has a French farmhouse feel.

Located in the heart of Melbourne CBD, Hardware Société ticks all the boxes for the perfect Sunday brunch. A fusion of Spanish and French-inspired dishes, this breakfast spot serves up the comforts of a homemade meal in a buzzing city setting.
We recommend the fried brioche with rhubarb and orange, or the baked eggs with chorizo, potato, peppers and queso mahon. Simply delicious!
